Had the unique opportunity to photograph a couple of pairs from the upcoming Packer X J.Crew X Asics Tiger GLIII "1907 Collection" this past week.

This release marks 110 years since Packer Shoes opened their first store in Yonkers NY, which in terms of streetwear is a pretty staggering achievement.  Even more incredible is that the company is still family owned in it's third generation with Mike Packer at the helm, whose grandfather established the original shoe store.

There are four models, which are part of this commemorative release.  The "Oxblood Leather", "Charcoal Suede", "White Buck" and "Navy Buck" sneakers, all seriously clean designs.

First up the colour blocked "Charcoal Suede" pair.  Any grey sneaker is going to strike that classic chord.  The suede has a really nice textured nap to elevate it to another level.  I am not surprised to see this pair as part of the collection.

The Oxblood pair photographed above is a real stand out for me, with a perf leather toe box and a rich lustrous colour that is eye catching but understated all at the same time.  It really screams, class, quality and sophistication, equally at home, with a suit, some chinos or a dirty raw denim pin roll.  If I did have to pick one from the entire pack, it would be these Oxblood leather joints.  That perf leather toe box just speaks to me, that colour is ridiculously good and you just know it will end up with a lustrous patina over the years, unique to the wearer, which is always a nice touch.  Now that is what I call dapper.

Next up following on from the "Dirty Buck" from the Asics GLIII 25th Anniversary release in 2015 is the "White Buck" photographed above and the "Navy Buck", which has that stand out midsole but with a lush colour blocked deep Navy suede upper.  These two pairs originated as a result of all the left over ideas after the Dirty Buck release, in Mike Packer's own words.

“There were so many other great colorways and ideas that we had left on the creative cutting room floor when working on the “Dirty Buck” that we always felt there was more to be done with the concept."

I think a lot of people are stoked to see that eye catching midsole return on a couple of clean colour blocked uppers.

Needless to say the materials and execution on both the pairs I managed to get hold of are top notch, something you would associate with a coming together of three powerhouse like Packer X J.Crew X Asics Tiger.   The attention to detail throughout is superb, all the little touches, which get most sneaker peeps hearts palpitating like the leather Packer patch on the split tongue.  I would have loved to have seen some embossed Packer branding on the heel panels of these releases, similar to the "Dirty Buck" release, but that is my only feedback.  Ultimately these are serious clean and timeless pieces, which is the overall vibe Packer was aiming for with the concept for the pack.  I guess leaving off this sort of embossing does give it more of a classic, clean, timeless feel, which is achieved with aplomb.

You can find all the release details on the Packer and J.Crew websites definitely be quick though as I think these will be hot property.
