I have been exploring a lot of new labels lately, specifically streetwear. Some destroyed denim has been on my list for a while and I was lucky enough to come across the LA based label MNML.
The M1 Vintage denim matches up nicely with the White Split-Back Scallop Tee and Grey Alpha Hoodie, for a clean minimalist look. I finished it off with the Norse Projects X New Balance M1500NO2 'Danish Weather' brown sneakers and Nixon Regain honey beanie for an Autumn vibe.
MNML comprise a team of veteran designers who in their own words produce 'High quality basics developed in Los Angeles. We believe in keeping things simple: progressive silhouettes and wardrobe staples sold at a fair price.' Having sampled a range of their gear, I can say without doubt, they deliver 100% on their mission statement.
To be honest it is a long time since I really had the urge to grab any clothing. I was lucky enough to grow up when a lot of streetwear was manufactured in Japan, Canada and the US, labels like BBC, Bape and ALIFE to name a few were staples for me over many years and were reasonably priced and accessible. As a result I am fortunate to have a pretty nice stash of apparel to choose from. That being said we all need a refresher, and it has been long overdue for me to pick up some nice quality basics, which inevitably take the biggest thrashing in day to day wear.
Everyone loves to indulge in statement pieces whether they be sneakers, jackets, watches etc. The pieces that elevate an outfit and add that personal style. In my opinion it is worth investing in these, buy the best you can afford as generally you get what you pay for. To compliment these pieces we all need basics, manufactured well and at a reasonable price, they are essential to any decent wardrobe. I don't know how you guys are finding the streetwear scene but I have found these type of basics particularly hard to nail down. I have come across some labels selling basic white tees for $250, I mean when did things get so out of control.
On my search for the good quality, affordable basics I have sampled items from Uniqlo and H&M, which have been pretty decent, although in store shopping is a must and being selective about what you buy is important as the quality variance across the different pieces can be quite distinct. MNML definitely raises the bar when it comes to these basics. I hope that the standard they have set will create more competition in this area of streetwear. Ultimately these pieces carry just as much importance if not more than statement pieces, they play an integral part in day to day comfort and style as well as adding the finishing touches to your outfit.
If you are after some reasonably priced, well styled, quality basics, you need look no further, just check out the MNML Website or follow them on Instagram to keep up to speed with restocks and new products. Their general style I would say is a relaxed oversized fit and as a result I have found the tops do sell out fast in the smaller sizes.
An added bonus for those of you based outside the US is they offer free international shipping. I can safely say MNML will be a staple in my wardrobe for the foreseeable future, congrats guys on a superb product.
